REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND MASS TRANSIT <br /> DATE: May 7, 2019 Re: Comm.No. 264 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 9:17 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Works and Mass Transit,to which was referred Communication <br /> No. 264,reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 264, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim dated April 18, 2019, nominates <br /> Andres Augustine"Andy" Baclig, Jr. to the Transportation Commission. Before the discussion <br /> began, Committee Chair Sue Lee Loy relinquished the role of presiding officer to Vice Chair <br /> Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder. <br /> Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Mr. Baclig. Addressing your <br /> Committee by videoconference from Hilo, Mr. Baclig said it felt like a"family reunion"to see <br /> so many of the staff members that he knew. He recognized several Council Members and <br /> provided his thoughts on his attendance at a recent Transportation Commission meeting. He said <br /> he was open to the Commission accepting greater responsibility, and added it was an honor to be <br /> there. <br /> Committee Members Sue Lee Loy, Maile David, and Aaron Chung all spoke favorably of <br /> Mr. Baclig's nomination. They thanked him for his long record of public service and continued <br /> willingness to step up to help the community. <br /> Committee Member Lee Loy lauded Mr. Baclig's record of"servant leadership." Council <br /> Member David said she wanted to be"just like"him. Council Member Chung referenced Mr. <br /> Baclig's record of involvement with youth athletics and in public service. <br /> Acting Chair Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder informed Mr. Baclig that he did not need to be present for <br /> full Council confirmation. <br /> PWMTC Report No: 7 <br />
