Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 262,-reports as follows:
Communication No. 262, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated April 18, 2019,nominates
Guillerma Galdones Sumera to the Pension Board.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Ms. Sumera. Ms. Sumera is a retired
County employee who served in numerous roles. She is also an active member in the community,
serving such organizations as the Merrie Monarch Festival and the Big Island Filipino Community
Council. Ms. Sumera was present in Hilo and expressed her willingness to serve on the Pension Board.
Council Members and Chair David commented in favor of her appointment. Chair David informed
Ms. Sumera that she does not need to appear at the next Council meeting for confirmation of her
appointment.
Pursuant to Article VI, Chapter 6, Section 6-6.4, Hawaii County Charter, there is established a Pension'
Board, which shall consist of five members, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 262, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Guillerma Galdones Sumera to the Pension Board.
