Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 263, reports as follows:
Communication No. 263, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated April 18, 2019, nominates
Benson Philip Medina to the Salary Commission.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Mr. Medina. Mr. Medina is
employed with Veritas Holdings and currently is the president of the Rotary Club of South Hilo, a
Board Member of the Hawai`i Island Veterans Memorial, Inc., and also a strong supporter of the
American Cancer Society Relay for Life. He graduated from Kamehameha Schools and obtained his
bachelor's degree in Communications from Pacific University and graduate studies from Portland State
University.
Mr. Medina expressed his willingness to serve on the Salary Commission. Council Members and
Chair David commented in favor of the appointment. Chair David informed Mr. Medina that he does
not need to appear at the next Council meeting for confirmation of his appointment.
Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-28, Hawai`i County Charter, there is established a Salary
Commission, which shall consist of nine members, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the
Council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 263, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Benson Philip Medina to the Salary Commission.
