No. 266/Res.No. 159-19 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 2:03 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 159-19, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 159-19, transmitted by Corporation Counsel Joseph K. Kamelamela, via <br /> Communication No. 266 dated April 18, 2019, authorizes the employment of Special Counsel to <br /> represent the County of Hawai`i, Department of Environmental Management in renegotiation of its <br /> solid waste management contract with Waste Management Hawai`i in regards to the Pu'uanahulu <br /> West Hawai`i Sanitary Landfill. <br /> The Department of Environmental Management requests the Council's approval to retain special <br /> counsel with specific expertise and experience in solid waste contracting, at a cost not to exceed <br /> $300,000. <br /> Mr. Kamelamela stated that the County should do a comprehensive review of Waste Management <br /> Hawai`i's contract to operate the Pu'uanahulu West Hawai`i Sanitary Landfill and said the <br /> compensation for the special counsel shall not exceed $300,000. <br /> Upon recommendation of Corporation Counsel, the Council approved a motion to go into executive <br /> session to discuss this matter, and a recess was called.
