Subject: Bill 74 polystyrene AWEEC June 3
Date: Sunday,May 26,2019 7:26:38 PM
Aloha Council members,
I do NOT oppose Bill 74.
Since China, and therefore the County, stopped recycling many plastics, many alternatives to
polystyrene can't be used. So reduction of polystyrene ended up being a ban on plastic, with
no public debate, which is not an acceptable way to write laws, Ate
However, I urge businesses to use compostable foodware. It may not break down in our airless
landfill, but it will when it ends up on land or in the ocean. With plastic found in the deepest -=.4
parts of the ocean and in baby fish in Hawai'i, and our beaches turning into plastic "sand", we
don't need more plastic. And environmental friendliness attracts customers.
Mahalo,
Cory Harden
