TESTIMONY IN SUPPORT OF RESOLUTION 180-19 A RESOLUTION COMMITTING TO
FUNDING THE COST ITEMS AGREED UPON BY THE EMPLOYERS AND THE UNITED
PUBLIC WORKERS (UPW) UNIT 01 AND EMPLOYEES EXCLUDED FROM BARGAINING
UNIT 01 FOR THE CONTRACT PERIOD JULY 1'. 2019 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2021

The UPW is the exclusive representative for approximately 14,000 public employees, which include blue collar,
non-supervisory employees in Bargaining Unit 1 and institutional, health and correctional employees in
Bargaining Unit 10, in the State of Hawaii, Hawaii County, Maui County, Kauai County and the City and
County of Honolulu. The UPW also represents about 1,500 members in the private sector.
The UPW strongly supports Resolution 180-19 for collective bargaining cost items for BU-01 members
including excluded members of BU-01 for the period July 1, 2019 to and including June 30, 2021. We
appreciate the consideration of the State and Counties in passing their respective legislation for the new
collective bargaining agreement. We request that the Hawaii County Council adopt the Resolution.
