Dear Ms. Kiriu:
As you are aware, Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children (KMCWC) is the
Master contractor to the State of Hawaii. Department of Health for the provision of
statewide : exual assault treatment services. This correspondence is to update you on
the provider status for the island of Hawaii. Effective October 1, 1999 KMCWC will be
assuming clirect provision of sexual assault treatment services to the big island
community.
In regards :o the current subcontractor on the big island, we have discussed with the
YWCA Havraii Island, a transition period of (3) months with KMCWC to officially end any
contractual agreement effective October 1, 1999. We are meeting with Susan Labrenz
of the YWC A tomorrow to discuss the details of this transition plan.
In light of tt.is new development, we therefore would encourage the County of Hawaii to
consider reallocation of the county dollars earmarked for sexual assault treatment
activities to KMCWC. Once we have met and come to agreement with the YWCA on
the transiticn plan and related costs to provide these service activities we will be able to
enter into d scuc;sions with the Hawaii county regarding details of a possible reallocation.
We realize':hat a proposal format may be required and are prepared to submit our
proposed activities and related financial requirements.
