A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE OBSERVATION OF NATIONAL NIGHT OUT.
WHEREAS,National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that
promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie that is held on the first
Tuesday in August; and
WHEREAS,National Night Out facilitates relationship-building between community
members, law enforcement, and first responders to increase neighborhood safety by improving
crime, drug, and disaster preparedness awareness; and
WHEREAS,National Night Out has been observed since 1984 and has over 38 million
residents in all fifty states participating in diverse settings including backyard cookouts, block
parties, carnivals, and parades; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii County residents, businesses, and other organizations are
encouraged to collaborate with one another to participate in National Night Out and bring it to
their respective communities on August 6, 2019; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
County of Hawaii joins forces with thousands of communities across the country to promote and
support the observation of National Night Out and mahalo police officers, firefighters, and first
responders for their service.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Honorable Harry Kim, Mayor, the Chief of Police, the Fire Chief, the Civil
Defense Administrator, and the Prosecuting Attorney.
