A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO SPECIAL OLYMPICS
HAWAII INC. TO ASSIST EAST HAWAII ATHLETES WITH TRAVEL EXPENSES
TO PARTICIPATE IN THE HOLIDAY CLASSIC GAMES ON OAHU.
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that
provides sports and fitness training for individuals on Hawai`i Island with intellectual
disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. provides athletic competition through a
variety of sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them opportunities to
develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of
gifts and friendship with their families, other athletes, and the community; and
WHEREAS, on November 23-24, 2019, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. will be holding
its annual Holiday Classic games at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on O`ahu, which will
include bowling, basketball, and bocce competitions; and
WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. is requesting funds to defray travel expenses
for East Hawai`i athletes to participate in the Holiday Classic games on O`ahu; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports partnerships with other
recreation providers and community organizations that provide fun and healthy activities for the
public; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. to assist East Hawai`i
athletes with travel expenses to participate in the Holiday Classic games on O`ahu.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
