Kona Community Development Plan (CDP) for Hawai'i County Council Planning Committee, 1:00 PM Tuesday, July 23, 2019, Kona chambers. By Maya Parish, Hawi -3 Aloha Council Members, r I am deeply concerned about the proposed changes to the Kona CDP. The CDP in Kona, and in every district on the island, represents thousands of hours of dedicated volunteer work the citizens and residents of the district to express, refine, and codify their wishes for the co development, or lack thereof, in their communities. To change the "shalls" into "mays" considerably weakens and undermines these thousands of hours of efforts, as well as the authority of the CDPs, which are integral grassroots steering documents for our districts. What kind of a message would the County Council be sending the residents of these districts if this language were weakened because a handful of public officials desired it so? This is a dangerous precedent to set. I urge you to not allow these changes to go through. Mahalo for your time, your consideration, and your service to your communities. Maya Parish Hawi i= i Comm.
