Ige Aloha! I am a Kona girl from the Big Island. My name is Sara Nohealani Binney Mitchell. I currently lives in Lewisville,Texas with my husband and 2 sons all from the Big Island. I also have a 22 year old daughter that still lives there in Kong. I would like to take this time to urge and request that as a temporary resolution the proposed 60 day moratorium by Senator Kahele be placed immediately. I have been diligently watching all live feeds coming off of Mauna Kea since Sunday,July 14, 2019. 1 have spoken to my daughter who has been on the Mauna periodically throughout the past week. As a Kanaka Maoli I have never been so proud of being Hawaiian. The aloha and humility that comes from practicing Kapu Aloha was indeed seen and felt. As 38 year resident of Kona, I have NEVER been so proud of our community. I have been here in North Dallas, Texas for 4 years. I have seen how protest groups can escalate in a moments time. I have seen the violence and hate that boil up from people who are placed in a position of feeling threatened in what was meant to be a peaceful march. I have seen instances in which innocent people lose there lives in protest situations: The way in which our Kia'i have behaved has been an enormous example to the world of how humanity should exist, of how even through the most hurtful of times we can coexist in our differences and would towards a peaceful resolution. Our local law enforcement officers should be highly commended for the way in which they handled themselves and the our Kia'i, They have served as a prime example of how humble, compassionate law enforcement should hold themselves. Obviously this again is through the act and lifestyle and culture of living Kapu Aloha which is the only behavior our Kupuna on the Mauna have requested and it is the only result that exists at this time. Our protectors and local law enforcement coexisted on Mauna Kea for the few days even through the hours of arresting our kupuna . . . . where? Seriously where have you ever seen so many people being arrested show love and compassion to an officer arresting them?Where have you ever seen someone under arrest hug/receiver a hug from the arresting officer and hear the words it's okay no worry I still love you . . . . . C'mon those moments will go down in history it has awakened people to how we should live our lives it is teaching the upcoming generations how to move their world forward on the simple act of Kapu Aloha . . . . Dote ,j 2 2M The mood and the anxiety of everyone changed the very minute the presence of outside law enforcement officers descended upon our Kia'i in their riot gear fully visual and the presence of the LRAD. The tears of sorrow for our kupuna that were arrested earlier in the day then transformed into tears of fear for our women, children, men and kupuna that could potentially be hurt for peacefully standing up for their beliefs, yet they stood firm in Kapu Aloha . . . an aloha . . . . a pure form of love that eventually overtook every single officer there. I watched broken heartedly as each officer struggled to stand there amidst their people, among their ohana chanting and pleading with them to listen to their hearts . . . . to do what is right . . . you could clearly see NONE of them wanted to be there . . . NONE of them wanted to potentially do what may be asked of them. The emotional stress that the state/government have put those men through is abusive and criminal . . . . I would seriously not be surprised if from that one event some of them develop PTSD from it. Please for the safety of ALL of our people put aside the wants of needs of the foreign business men TMT, put our people,the people that elected you into office,the people you will still have to face next month, next year and the years to come, our keiki that are watching everything that we do obligate yourself to the moratorium and rescind the Emergency Proclamation.
