Aloha,
My name is Joyce Cundiff and my family has been on Oahu, HI for almost twenty years. I,
myself, am a Mililani resident where I reside with my (also pro-TMT supporter) husband,
David Michael Cundiff.
We respectfully express our strong support for the TMT being built on Mauna Kea, as well the
continuation of the Astronomy field in Hawaii, which we feel this protest would irreparably
imperil. Not only will the program directly benefit the residents of Hawaii, but mankind as
well. Additionally,if we allow mob rule to illegally overturn a ruling by the supreme court, it
sets a bad precedent, and it will deter potential investors from coming to our islands in the
future.
I feel it would be extremely sad and disappointing if we allowed a very small (and misguided)
minority to harm the interests of everyone on the islands. At the end of the day, we have to
live here too, and we should not allow unrelated past misgivings to harm the future of our
islands.
Additionally, I (and many others) find it offensive and disturbing that the protesters have
allowed to spread misinformation (such as the telescope being nuclear powered and destroying
the underground aquifer) and have received preferential, coddling treatment from our
government officials. Please stop this. It is shameful and looks weak to outsiders, and I have
personally lost faith in everyone siding against the laws.
