I support the TMT project, and urge you not to delay it's construction in any
way. It has already taken 10 years of studies, EIS, hearings, permits, legal
appeals, and protests. The project permit has been approved by the state
DLNR, twice, and the permit has been affirmed by the Hawaii State
Supreme Court. Further delay serves no useful purpose.
Those who oppose the TMT want to deny educational opportunities to
young Hawaiian students, job opportunities for construction workers and
high-tech operations and maintenance personnel, and world-class research
opportunities for staff and post-grad researchers.
The TMT, and Mauna Kea astronomy in general, provides a way to diversify
the Hawaiian economy beyond tourism and the military. This is a much-
needed project, for all the reasons cited above. Please vote no on resolution
223.
