Honor the Request of Senator Kaiali`i Kahele Calling for a Moratorium E
on the Construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope on Mauna A Wakea
Aloha e Chairman Chung and Members of the Hawaii County Council,
Due to the rapidly escalating situation on Hawaii Island regarding the mobilization and
construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope, I humbly ask for your support of Hawaii County
Councilmember Maile David's request to place Resolution No, 233-19 on the July 24, 2019
Council Meeting agenda.
If Resolution No. 233-19 is placed on the July 24, 2019 agenda, I write in strong support
of said resolution for a construction moratorium relating to the Thirty Meter Telescope on Mauna
A Wakea. As each day goes by, I grow increasingly apprehensive that the State of Hawaii is not
fully prepared for the situation on Maunakea. I believe your encouragement to Governor Ige and
Mayor Kim for a 60-day moratorium is in the best interest for all parties and provide an
opportunity for discussions with all stakeholders.
