As a longtime resident of Hawaii island and lifetime citizen of the State of Hawaii, I am strongly opposed to imposing a moratorium on the construction of the thirty meter telescope (TMT). The TMT team put in an extraordinary amount of time and effort, following the lawful process for permitting and construction of the TMT. Fellow citizens of Hawai'i who opposed the project were integral participants of the permitting process. All participants in the permitting process shared their concerns for and against the merits of the proposed TMT facility. This project has gone through several layers of government requirements'. Ultimately,to the State Supreme Court and was required to go through two contested case hearings. The result of this long and lawful process, is that TMT was granted approval to proceed with construction. My granddaughter talks about the possibility of one day being an astronomer, reaching out to the stars from our own island would be a dream come true for our entire 'ohana. With safety being the number one priority, the rule of law needs to be enforced. I strongly oppose Resolution 233-19. Mahalo nui, Mike Kaleikini 1134 Ainalako Road Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Comm.
