I am in favor of the construction of the TMT and the rule of law. I retired to the Big
Island 3 years ago and bought a house, and I vote. The protestors are not really
concerned with the telescope. They are concerned with sovereignty. The TMT has,
nevertheless, bent over backward to be culturally sensitive. The TMT will bring
jobs, education, and recognition to Hawaii. The protestors want to drag the clock
back to an absolute monarchy. The majority of Hawaiians do not want to go back to
a time when the alii and the priesthood ruled. It's time to move forward into the
navigator's stars. With the TMT Hawaii can be recognized as a leader in astronomy,
and education can be valued as it should be.
