RESOLUTION NO. 246 19
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE AAUW KONA
EDUCATIONAL FUND TO ASSIST WITH THE 2019 GIRLS EXPLORING MATH
AND SCIENCE EVENT IN WEST HAWAII.
WHEREAS, the AAUW Kona Educational Fund (AAUW) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization that promotes educational activities for women and girls and encourages higher
education to the young women of West Hawai`i; and
WHEREAS, Girls Exploring Math and Science (GEMS) is an annual event hosted by
AAUW to teach math, science, and technology to fifth-grade girls using hands-on activities, and
this year's event will be held on December 10, 2019, in West Hawai`i; and
WHEREAS, AAUW has requested financial assistance for meals, t-shirts, and other
expenses associated with the 2019 GEMS event; and
WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney supports early juvenile prevention
initiatives and education opportunities to improve the quality of life on the Big Island; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Office of the
Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to the AAUW Kona Educational Fund to assist with the
2019 GEMS event in West Hawai`i.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Prosecuting Attorney and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance
is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
