Subject: Mauna Kea TMT testimony
Aloha,
My name is Colette Rixey and I am from Kihei on the island of Maui. I am 32 years old.
I would like to urgently request that the development and building of TMT on Mauna Kea not happen without
further discussion and a peaceful resolution amongst the Hawaiian people and people who consider Mauna Kea
to be a sacred place to their culture and those who wish to turn it into a home for TMT.
What's happening is not right. We cannot bulldoze our way over peoples sacred lands. We've done this so
many times and look at all the trauma it has caused. There has to be another way. Not to mention the
environmental impact. Haven't we taken enough away from the Hawaiian people?
I believe this will have a negative effect on the Hawaiian culture, the aquifer, and the cost to public resources. I
also believe this will be occurring in a conservation district. Let's teach our Keiki the value in respecting each
other's cultures, histories and what we each hold sacred. Find another way.
Mahalo,
Colette
