I have been following the situation with the TMT since it first started its construction and was shut down by protesters in 2015. Now after further studies, hearings, and court rulings —for a total of 10 years overall, I believe? —the TMT is deemed to be non-destructive, non-invasive, and legally has the right to build on the mountain and would do so, except for a minority of people who willingly block the access road and submit their kupuna to be at the forefront in the event that arrests are made. I understand that kupuna in Hawaii are revered, and their opponents' readiness to create the worst situation for the officers who would have to arrest them is flagrantly manipulative and shameful. I believe that in their actions — like the TRO hearing I attended today —the opponents do not always behave with honor. I do not believe their opposition should be suppressed but I do believe that they should not be indulged while they continue breaking the law. They do not represent all of Hawaii; the majority of its people support the TMT, and the benefits it promises for our jobs, education, and economy. We all know that this telescope is not going to destroy the mountain, its sacredness, or its water. We have had 10 years to discuss what happens. I am opposed to an additional delay. Thank you for hearing my voice on the matter. Sincerely, Dr. Michelle Sandell Hilo Comm. No. Ref. To: 1 Ref. nate JUL 3 1 2019
