Subject: I do not support calling for a moratorium on the construction of the Thirty Meter
Telescope on Mauna A Wakea
Aloha,
I do not support calling for a moratorium on the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope on Mauna A Wakea. It has
passed all of the legal requirements for the last decade and the governments' opportunities to provide their concerns were
then, not now. Back in 2015, similar issues were raised then and that's when the State and County legislators should
have aired their concerns.
I understand the need to not create divisiveness and instead reach dialog and understanding, but TMT is not the real
issue.
It's become the lightening rod for Hawaiian issues when in fact the construction is not the issue being protested. It's a
larger issue to be discussed and the TMT is being used to push the real agenda of Hawaiian Sovereignty which is not
being reported in the media.
Our state news media has been reporting issues one-sided and supporting the protestors without equal time for those in
support despite the surveys that most Hawaiian residents support TMT but are in the silent majority. The media should be
seeking them out to report evenly on the whole issue.
I encourage the Council to follow the laws or work to change them if they disagree with them but not in the middle of a
crisis such as this.
I support getting answers on how the expenses are being tracked and paid for on both the 2015 and now 2019 protests.
