Subject: Testimony against TMT
To whom it may concern.:
I
Mauna Kea has been the backdrop of my life...connections to the Mauna have run deep from generations of my
`Ghana before me, from birth thru today and until my last breath and beyond, it will continue long after I am
gone.
As a wife and Mother it is important that I too instill the values taught to me of the significance of keeping
sacred places like that of Mauna Kea and protect these valuable spaces as a birth right for my Native Hawaiian
Keilki, not only for their future, but for generations beyond. This is why I: feel the construction of TMT is
against the very core of what I've been taught and what I continue to teach my children.
With 5 of the 13 telescopes, no longer in use, why should Mauna Kea be subjected to further desecration for
foreign investors with no ties to our Mauna when the likelihood of a catastrophic environmental disaster in the j
critical habitat of species like the wekiu bug atop Mauna Kea is a matter of when& not if. In the early years of
these telescopes,my `Ghana can recall stories of when telescope run off water was released back onto the
Mauna with a lack.of concern or care.
Fast forward to today, where construction of that magnitude in a conservation zone not only sounds ridiculous
but construction the size of TMT without a BOND sounds like crazy talk and all to benefit who? One million
dollars to the people, what don't you get about sacred, I guess to measure it in monetary value you could equate
that to "priceless".
So many issues here that have been not taken into consideration like the fact of the Largest of aquifer which
supplies the islands population water should be sufficient reason to alone to not allow for construction.
However, because foreign money as well as our own government officials fail to care about the will of the
people, they have sold out the sacred Hess of a place for corporate greed, potentially poisoning our main water
source, but also using our own tax dollars as an endless security service for TMT against their very own tax
payers enrages me. What poor, poor judgement.
We must also take into consideration the Iwi which was put to rest long ago, which would be unearthed and
further desecrated. How. much more must happen? If you can't find the reasons listed as reasons to stop the
construction of TMT, how can I expect my Hawaiian Keiki to continue to live Here in Hawaii without feeling
like they are being chased out by the almighty dollar. Please STOP the construction of TMT immediately!
Mahalo for you time,
