Re: Agreement with the United States Geological Survey
Enclosed is a resolution to enter into an agreement with the United States Geological
Survey(USGS)to provide $46,672 for the purpose of continuing the cooperative flood-
monitoring system on the Island of Hawaii. This program is to collect data to map
flood-prone areas for land-use management and the planning and designing of flood
management systems such as bridges, culverts and levees.

A. REQUEST:
A resolution, authorizing the Mayor to enter into an intergovernmental agreement between the County of
Hawai'i and the U.S. Geological survey (USGS)for the purposes of continuing the Cooperative Flood-
Monitoring program on the island of Hawaii.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
This agreement with the USGS is an annually budgeted, joint funding agreement where the County of
Hawai'i contributes $46,672 toward the flood-monitoring program for the collection of long-term systematic
data of.annual peak streamflow. The data collected is used to map flood-prone areas for land use
management, and planning and designing flood mamangement systems such as bridges, culverts, and
levees.
