Aloha Council Members—
I'm writing to support Resolution 219 19 on the working group for beekeeping.
I've lived in neighborhoods where small-scale beekeeping was happening, both here and on
the mainland. I've never been aware of any problems.
I'm sure the Council membership is aware of the pollination crisis—the bee crisis—
worldwide. Without bees, nobody, anywhere, will have workable agricultural systems.
Anything that can advance the health and welfare of our bee pollinators—and this includes
allowing them to be kept in residential neighborhoods—is important.
Of course there will always be people for whom a bee sting is dangerous. I've known several
of them. But these people are prepared, and know what to do. I don't see this as a big problem.
I urge the passage of this resolution.
Mahalo,
