SUBJECT: Update from the Hawaii Department of Transportation regarding status of road
improvements and communication process to County of Hawaii and community
By means of this communication I am requesting a 60 minute presentation from the Hawaii Department
of Transportation regarding the following items:
• Status of the Highway 130 restriping project,projected operational date of the Kea`au-Pahoa
Road contraflow, and how it will function;
• Status of highway improvements between Kea`au Bypass and Pahoa to assist Puna Council
Members with decision-making for regional connectivity and the establishment of alternate
and/or additional routes;
• Communication protocols between the state,county,and community to ensure all stakeholders
are aware of traffic impacts and information is provided in a timely and consistent manner.
Please place this matter on the appropriate committee agenda for September 3,2019.
