RESOLUTION NO. '270 19
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY OF HAWAII TO AWARD
FUNDS TO MALAMA '0 PUNA
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii
County Code (2005 Edition as amended) states, Grant awards in excess of$25,000
to nonprofit organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the
grant funds and the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in an ordinance
or resolution; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136(5) of the Hawaii County
Code states, "nonprofit organization" means an organization organized for other than
profit-making purposes and which has a current 501(c)3 tax-exemption from the
Internal Revenue Code; and
WHEREAS, Malama '0 Puna, which qualifies as a nonprofit organization as
defined above, shall work to establish a temporary road for residents and farmers
from Malama Ki to access lava locked homes and farms; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii wishes to provide $28,000 to Malama '0
Puna; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds were received from private sources for disaster
relief and this project is related to the disaster recovery efforts specific to roads that
were damaged by the 2018 Kilauea volcanic eruption; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, in
accordance with Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii County
Code, the County of Hawaii is authorized to provide a grant of$28,000 to Malama '0
Puna to establish temporary road access to lava locked homes and farms.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii
shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the Finance
Department, the Department of Public Works, and the Department of Research and
Development.
