RESOLUTION NO. 28i, 19
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO LIONS CLUB OF
KONA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, INC., FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES
INCURRED AT THE 37th ANNUAL KUPUNA HULA FESTIVAL.
WHEREAS, the Lions Club of Kona Community Foundation, Inc., is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization that was created in 2008 to support local communities; and
WHEREAS, each year the Lions Club of Kona Community Foundation, Inc., hosts the
Kupuna Hula Festival celebration that honors and perpetuates the art of Hula through our
treasured Kupuna; and
WHEREAS, the Kupuna Hula Festival celebrated its 37th anniversary on September 11
and 12, 2019, at the Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa at Keauhou Bay; and
WHEREAS, the Lions Club of Kona Community Foundation, Inc., is requesting
reimbursement of funds to assist with the venue fee, and other miscellaneous expenses related to
the 2019 Kupuna Hula Festival; and
WHEREAS, the annual Kupuna Hula Festival falls within the Department of Parks and
Recreation's Culture and Education program to promote, perpetuate, and encourage activities
and programs in culture, art, history, and humanities; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Lions Club of Kona Community Foundation, Inc.,
for the 37th Annual Kupuna Hula Festival.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
