Dear Chair Chung and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to nominate Denise Nakanishi of Council District 3 to the Board of
Ethics. Ms. Nakanishi is a realtor, a retired Major of the US Army with an active duty of
over 13 years, and owner of a snack bar in the Hilo International Airport area.
Ms. Nakanishi holds a BA in Education from the University of Florida, a Master's degree
in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado and Chaminade University.
She also attended the University of Florida Law School.
Ms. Nakanishi has a list of community services that include the Hawaii Island Veterans
Memorial Inc., the Mayor's Veteran's Advisory Board, the East Hawai'i Cultural Council,
and the Hilo Yacht Club.
She states she is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, Ms. Nakanishi will fill
a vacant term to end December 31, 2019. She will qualify to reapply for a full five-year
term.
