From: Ku Kahakalau Ph.D. 8 To: Council Testimony 8 AUG 30 f j Cc: Kierkiewicz.Ashlev !E7 Subject: Strong Support for Resolution 271-19, Date: Friday,August 30,2019 8:24:10 AM Aloha mai. My name is Dr. Ku Kahakalau and my`ohana and I fully support Resolution 271-19, which addresses interim recovery strategies resulting from the Kilauea eruption. This support also includes assistance to Kua 0 Ka La Charter School. Since December 2018, it has been my honor to be chair of the Kua 0 Ka La School Board. As the chair, I applaud your efforts to create an efficient process, which collaborates with the Federal government,to create a shared framework and language, which brings transparency to the recovery process and moves on numerous important projects that will improve the quality of life for our students and staff, who have been extremely traumatized by loosing their campus, i.e. their safe place. By providing$400,000 to Kua 0 Ka La NCPCS to solve immediate relocation needs you will contribute signficantly to allow for ongoing healing at this school, which has suffered as no other public school in Hawaii from the impact of last year's disaster. In the spirit of your efforts to initiate a more collaborative style of government that is more inclusive of community and business stakeholders during the planning and decision- making process, I strongly urge you to listen to the voices of your community and please pass Resolution 271-19, which support much needed disaster recovery. Me ke aloha pumehana, Ku Kahakalau and 'Ohana.
