RE: Report of Council Members' Participation in Site Visit to Area Impacted by
the Puna Lava Flow
In accordance with HRS §92-2.5(e), I am reporting the attendance of Council Members Ashley
Kierkiewicz,Matt Kanealii-Kleinfelder, and myself at a tour of one of the many kipuka created
by the recent lava flow. This site visit was conducted on Friday,August 30, 2019, at the
invitation of Puna residents Cindy Conda,Nancy Seifert, Susan Kim and Lono Lyman, and
provided us with a first-hand view and understanding of the impacts of the flow on residents and
farmers who were unable to access their properties.
HRS §92-2.5(e)provides that two or more members of a board,but less than a quorum,may
attend an informational meeting of another entity, legislative hearing, convention seminar, or
community meeting,provided that the meeting is not specifically and exclusively organized for
or directed toward members of the board. The section further provides that at the next duly
noticed meeting of the board,the board members shall report their attendance and the matters
presented and discussed that relate to official board business.
