Aloha Councilmembers,
Please do not sign the "blank check for Hele-On"(thanks,Nancy Cook-Lauer!) Instead, send Resolution 304 to
the Finance Committee for thorough review.
I don't know whether to scream, cry, or roll laughing.
•contractor and contract amount to be kept secret till after you okay a three-year contract.
•resolution lacking details, submitted late,waived from the normal committee hearing, getting only one vote
(not the usual two)before Council, and waived from the normal five-day reconsideration period.
No reason given for the secrecy and urgency.
Former employers of the Mass Transit administrator, Ms. Carreira,positioned as the ones who could profit
handsomely from this resolution.
Over 40% of the Mass Transit budget spent on emergency fill-in buses run by those former employers.
No applications in the past five years for federal grants that would have covered the entire cost of new buses.
At best, this smells. At worst, it's an ethics violation and a mockery of democracy. Please say no.
