Your Committee on Public Safety, to which was referred Communication No. 464,reports as
follows:
Communication No. 464, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated August 29, 2019, nominates
Guy Schutte to the Police Commission.
Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to the Mayor, introduced Mr. Guy Schutte. Mr. Schutte was
born and raised on the Big Island, and is a graduate of Honoka'a High School. He has previously
served on the Police Commission and served as chairman from 2014 through 2016.
Mr. Guy Schutte gave thanks to the Council for the opportunity to serve.
Council Members as a whole are in support of the nomination. Chair Villegas stated that
Mr. Schutte is not required to appear before the Council for final approval.
The Committee on Public Safety is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 464, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Guy Schutte to the Police
Commission.
