Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 465, reports as follows:
Communication No. 465, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated August 29, 2019, nominates
Denise Nakanishi to the Hawaii County Board of Ethics.
Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kim, introduced Denise Nakanishi.
Ms. Nakanishi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Florida. She
has a Masters degree in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado and Chaminade
University. Ms. Nakanishi also attended Law School at the University of Florida. If confirmed,
she will serve to fill a term expiring December 31, 2019.
Nominee Nakanishi was present and expressed that she would be honored to serve on the Board
of Ethics. Several Council Members commented in favor of her nomination.
Chair David stated that Ms. Nakanishi did not need to appear at the next Council meeting for
confirmation of her appointment.
Pursuant to Article XIV, Section 14-5, Hawaii County Charter,there is established a Board of
Ethics, which shall consist of five members, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the
Council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 465,
and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Denise Nakanishi to the Hawaii County
Board of Ethics.
