When codifying intent, words can help. For example, we know what we mean when we say or hear "You have my word on it. " We mean we agree, we understand. We share some intent or expectation. Or words can be made to sound complicated, authoritative and a bunch of hocus pocus before you. Everyone in this room should be acutely aware -- our divided community suffers the reverberation of broken agreements, loose promises and the application of empty words. But what if we could do something epic about that -- right now -- in front of the entire world? A megalith -- a Hawaiian stone mystery site exists less than 2 miles outside of Pahoa and is about to become our next little State or National Park. And contrary to what you may have heard -- it is most definitely not a modern US Coast Guard construction. With the development of this site into a park, the Hawaiian culture will be elevated on the world stage -- Mayor Kim can have his Railroad Road all the way to Hilo -- and developers can have fully half the land they desire down there for building lots. Yet those lots will be worth double and our community will be worth triple. Quality AND quantity. The word "Comprehensive" means "supports the greatest number of constituents across all affected areas" not just County and Government agencies. The word "Recovery" means a set of actions that benefits all stakeholders, storefronts, households and individuals. Otherwise it is just a fail. To understand what we are up against, please comprehend this undervalued piece of the Recovery puzzle: the VALUE of Puna's lost gentle and beautiful ocean entry at Kapoho Bay and Wai Opae Tide Pools, our guest houses and B&Bs throughout, and the thousand or so visitors staying in Kapoho and Vacationland any given weekend -- that was our bread and butter. And NO HOCUS POCUS -- we CAN recover this. Yet I ASSERT you are still being coddled, you are still are being protected. Still famously led in one direction and slyly away from another. Lets have transparency, but most importantly, let's have a recovery for all. Please support 271 -- and please accept my request for a meeting when I contact your offices. Thank you.
