I would Like to offer my testimony regarding Councilmember Valerie T.
Poindexter's proposition to declare a Climate Emergency Campaign in a
Hawaii County.
"The goal of Climate Emergency Campaign is to compel governments to
adopt an emergency response to climate change". This is a direct quote
from the campaign's national website,and is sponsored by Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez,Bernie Sanders, and Earl Blumenauer. As Hawaii County j
has stated that its objectives is to become a zero-waste county,
declaring a climate emergency here on the Big Island and immediately
implementing the requisite policies to attain this standard is essential
to create a sustainable future for all life.
I stand with Valerie Pointdexter and these elected officials to create a
local version of this initiative here on our island,and ask that the
council support any and all initiatives that will support a cleaner,
greener future for all.
