Hi council member;
My name is larry gering; former resident of Hilo and temporarily living in Oklahoma City, OK for
health reasons (VA hospital the size of Tripler and family is in OKC). I participated in 2 elections for
district 1 against Ms. Poindexter.
I think that you are being scammed by Carreira,the current transit administrator. You well know
that she is a former employee of the tour bus companies that she routinely contracts with to provide
buses for routes on the BI
that can't be taken care of by buses that she cannot/will not repair...When she wax hired Nov. 2018
there were many buses redlined (needed repairs) and as of September 6, 2019,there were still 18
buses dis-abled,totally unacceptable. She evidently has zero mechanical acumen and or zero ,r
mechanical training. I could have personally had the buses running on route. I know.how to repair
mechanical problems and diagnose them. School-trained.
She states that she does not "have to answer to anybody" and that is a lie because everybody in the
government employment has a supervisor.
The previous 3 mass transit administrators,women, were all failures also. I have no problem with
men/women being promoted to positions of administrative responsibility as long as they are
qualified, Carreira is not qualified.
Something is seriously WRONG with the selection system in Hawaii County.
The fact that FREE buses could have been obtained thru timely requests but overlooked by those
administrators is beyond stupid.
Carreira does not deserve a vote of confidence (150%approval) when she cannot get the job done...
Carreira wants a blank check because she thinks that spending money will solve the problems that
she helped create.
There are a lot of rules/regulations that Carreira is ignorant of as displayed by her lack of
knowledge re:the contract quagmire/missed deadlines.
Carreira needs to be replaced or at least have a mechanically-trained co-administrator who can deal
with the mechanical aspects:of the bus company, of which she is woefully inept.
