Resolution No. 3°6
(AMENDED)
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Charter establishes ten citizen
commissions appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Council.
In addition to the ten citizen commissions, there are eight citizen
commissions created by ordinances and resolutions and five
commissions authorized by the Hawaii Revised Statutes; and
WHEREAS, the commissions established by the County Charter
are as follows : Civil Service Commission (7 members) , Board of
Ethics (5 members) , Liquor Commission (7 members) , Liquor Control
Adjudication Board (5 members) , Pension Board (5 members) , Police
Commission (7 members) , Salary Commission (9 members) , Water
Commission (9 members) , and Planning Commission (9 members) , and
Planning Commission Board of Appeals (5 members) ; and
WHEREAS, the commissions established by County Ordinance and
Resolution are as follows : Building Board of Appeals (7 members) ,
Grading Board of Appeals (5 members) , Housing Advisory & Appeal
Board (5 members) , Kailua Special District & Urban Design
(13 members) , Transportation Commission (9 members) and Veteran
Cemetery Advisory Committee (7 members) , Hawaii County Bicentennial
Committee (21 at present) and Committee on the Handicapped; and
WHEREAS, the commissions authorized by the Hawaii Revised
Statutes are as follows : Elderly Affairs Policy Council (15 members) ,
County Highway Safety Council (15 members) , County Committee on
Manpower and Full Employment (6 members) , and County Committee on
Status of Women ( 18 members) .
WHEREAS, the citizen commissions consist of public-minded
members of the various communities. They are called upon to carry
out their responsibilities without any compensation and, thus, put
in many thankless hours without any recognition; and
.
WHEREAS, without their unselfish dedication, the people in this
County might have had to pay for all the services and expertise
rendered by those commissioners causing an increase in cost to the
taxpayers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it takes this means to extend to the commissioners our
deep appreciation and gratitude for their unselfish service to the
public.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit true copies of this resolution to the Chairman of each
Commission and Board and also to each Department Head who is
affiliated with the various commissions and boards.
