WHEREAS, the County Council of the County of Hawaii has adopted
Ordinance No® 53, mandating a program for the revitalization of
downtown Hilo; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii has adopted a
set of goals and objectives accentuating the need for economic
expansion; and
WHEREAS, the County Council of the County of Hawaii has adopted
Ordinance No® 281 which amends Section 6 of Chapter 8 (Zoning Code),
Article 26, Hawaii County Code 1975, as amended, exempting the area
bounded by Kinoole Street, Ponahawai Street, an imaginary straight
line extension of Ponahawai Street into Hilo Bay and Wailuku River
from the Off -Street Parking regulation requirements; and
WHEREAS, the intent of Ordinance No. 281 is to encourage
owners and tenants of business properties to improve and expand on
existing facilities, thus providing the stimulus toward the
revitalization of downtown Hilo by providing the necessary relief
for off-street parking; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 281 was duly passed by the County
Council of the County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 281 was duly signed into law by the
Mayor of the County of Hawaii on June 15, 1977,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it mandateepa
s the Planning and Public Works Drtments
to immediately carry out the intent, purpose and provisions of
Ordinance No. 281.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit true copies of this Resolution to the Honorable Herbert T.
Matayoshi, Mayor of the County of Hawaii; Mr. Sidney Fuke, Director,
Planning Department and Mr. Edward Harada, Chief Engineer, Public
Works Department®
