Post Date: 09/09/2019 8:14 AM Residents of areas isolated by the 2018 l flauea eruption, known as kipu(a, will be able to restore read access with the help of a $28,000 Hawaii County grant. The County Council approved a resolution authorizing use of the funds on Sept. 4. The money comes from $170,355 in !private donations. the bulk of which was provided by Puna Geothermal Venture. As case manager, the nonprofit agency's role will be to coordinate with county, state and federal agencies and other organizations to reach out to known eruption survivors with unmet needs, including housing. Program guidelines will be published in a forthcoming Federal Register Notice from HUD. Post Date: 08/20/2019 4:86 Prv1 Fewer survivors of the 2018 Kilauea eruption will have to return disaster aid following a review by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). FEMA and the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA), with support from Hawaii County, deployed assistance specialists from Aug. -9 on Hawaii Island to meet with people who received letters indicating they might have to return disaster assistance funds due to eligibility concerns. About $170,000 worth of debt was cleared as a result of that review process, HI- EMA said in a press release. Questions regarding eligibility involved ownership documentation, pre-disaster occupancy and duplication of assistance with insurance. . r Housin • n S.
