Resolution
WHEREAS, the Kuakini Highway is the main roadway leading from the Kailua-Kona
area to the South Kona communities; and
WHEREAS, the Kuakini Highway is also part of the circle island route which
many of our tourist travel upon; and
WHEREAS, the State Legislature has appropriated funds for land acquisition
and construction for the development of truck climbing lanes; and
WHEREAS, the plans are nearly completed and the right-of-way acquisitions
have been implemented,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII
that it encourages the State Department of Transportation in their endeavors
toward the completion of the capital project of the truck climbing lanes on
Kuakini Highway as it will alleviate the traffic congestion and promote safer
traffic conditions.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Council prays that the Department
of Transportation will expedite and act with all speed possible,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii remit true
copies of this resolution to Mr. E. Alvey Wright, Director of Transportation,
Mr. Tetsuo Harano, Chief of Land Transportation Facilities Division and
Mr. Charles L. Schuster, Hawaii District Engineer.
