Resolution
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii is presently strapped with
economic burdens such as a low hotel occupancy ratio, a decline
in the sugar industry and an overall high county-wide unemployment
condition; and
WHEREAS, in our efforts for self-sufficiency, we are striving
to expand our economic base by encouraging controlled growth and
the diversification of our commercial interest; and
WHEREAS, we have reviewed the goals and objectives of the Kalu
Research Institute, Inc. , and endorse its programs as it compliments
and will enhance our chances for success in ventures related to
agriculture and energy as they will have documented evidence of
economic promise for each project; and
WHEREAS, we concur with Kalu Research Institute, Inc. , that
it only wants to pursue projects through its conceptual phase
only and does not intend to engage in continuing commercial
activities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it supports the application of Kalu Research
Institute, Inc. , for a tax exempt status.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit true copies of this resolution to Floyd Culhane of the
Internal Revenue Service in Washington D. C. , and Harvey E. Finch,
President of Kalu Research Institute, Inc.
