No. 350-19 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 9:04 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 350-19, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 350-19, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna Sako, via Communication No. 526 <br /> dated September 27, 2019, authorizes the Office of the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the <br /> University of Hawaii. <br /> This resolution provides $14,322 from the Department of Research and Development to the University <br /> of Hawaii to fund its International Workshop on Angiostrongylus and Angiostrongyliasis program. <br /> Funds would be used to conduct educational outreach to researchers, clinicians, and the general public <br /> on the organisms that cause rat lungworm disease. <br /> Glenn Sako, Economic Development Specialist with Research & Development, explained that entering <br /> into this agreement with the University of Hilo will provide funding for the Sixth International <br /> Workshop that will allow the university to conduct educational outreach, bring together international <br /> researchers to present results, and further research into the cause of Rat Lung Worrn Disease, a <br /> debilitating disease that is often misdiagnosed.
