HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0489.147 2018-2020 From: James McCav To: Council Testimony Subject: Strong support Bill 101 Date: Monday,October 14,2019 2:28:52 PM Aloha Councilmembers, Thank you for your service in these interesting and important times. I urge each of you to please support Bill 101 to lead Hawai'i and restrict the spraying of toxic pesticides in Hawai'i County Warks and Roadways. I attended the Hawai'i Dept of Education briefing a few months ago when Dewayne"Lee" Johnson came to our islands. If you do not yet know who he is,please check as his case against Monsanto sets a dire precedent for any worker using toxic chemicals like RoundUp. So this Bill is also for the health and safety of Hawaii County workers AND the budget to avoid future legal issues. A huge point that came forth in the DOE hearing was that alternative cleaner measures are available today but people aren't educated so not using them; chemical companies have trained for their solution and this becomes a system of recommendation. Many other communities have successfully transitioned away from toxic pesticides to organic land management practices. Please protect our keiki, communities and vote in support of Bill 101. I live on Oahu but would far prefer to live on the Big Isle. Much more if this type of leadership can be realized. Mahalo &Malama Pono, James McCay, Honolulu Comm. o Ref. To: VIAWMG Ref.
