Please support Bill 10 1 which would restrict the spraying of toxic pesticides in our Hawaii
County Parks and Roadways-
According to a 20712 report by the American Academy of Pediatrics(,AAP)entitled"Pesticide
Exposure in Children,""Children encounter pesticides daily and have unique susceptibilities
to their potential toxicity_Acute poisolring risks are clear,and Understanding of chronic
health implications front both acute and chronic exposure are amerging.Research
demonstrates associations between curly life exposure to pesticides and pediatric cancers,
decreased connitive function,and behavioral problems."
As for glyphosate,there's a grooving body of evidence on health impacts associated with
exposure to glyphosate-lased herbicides suchas"Roundup,"including endocrine disruption,
organ damage and birth detects.
In 2015,the International Agency for Research on Cancer,a division()fill,-World Health
Organization,and the rkorlcFs leading authority on can„er-,ttnanim.,7usly concllacled that
glyphosate is"probably carcinogenic to humans."
Today more than 18-000 plaintiffs have filed suit against lvionsanto in the United States
allegi=ng they developed non-Hodgkin lymphoma due to exposure to Monsanto's glyphosate-
based weed killers.such;as Roundup.Of the three cases that have teen heard to date,in each
curse jnries have found in favor of the plaintiffs.Intemal industry documents uncovered
damns,these trials have revealed that h+lonsanto suppre,SSed elide€.ce of health risks of its
glyphosate b used herbicides.
lany other cornrnunities have successfully transitioned away from toxic pesticides to organic
