RESOLUTION NO. 373 19
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA 0 PUNA TO
PURCHASE UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE PAHOA PUEOS.
WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been serving
the Puna District for more than 20 years and is acting as the fiscal agent for the Pahoa Pueos tee-
ball and coach pitch teams; and
WHEREAS, the Pahoa Pueos tee-ball and coach pitch teams are comprised of volunteer
coaches and after-school Puna youth ages five through 12, most of whom come from low-
income families and some having more than one child participating in a team; and
WHEREAS, the high costs of uniforms and equipment present a financial hardship to the
low-income families and without assistance, most of the children would not be able to participate
in these after-school activities; and
WHEREAS, participating in outdoor activities provides physical, social, emotional, and
intellectual benefits; and
WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is requesting funding assistance to purchase uniforms to
include shirts, pants, caps, and rain jackets and equipment to include balls, bats, and a catcher's
suit for the Pahoa Pueos tee-ball and coach pitch teams; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation promotes organized recreation,
athletics, and other leisure time activities for the youth of Hawai`i Island; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to Malama 0 Puna for
uniforms and equipment for the Pahoa Pueos.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
