Dear Members,
I am a resident of Maliu Ridge in North Kohala. I recently received from the North
Kohala Land Company notice of the Planning Committee hearing to be held on August
10, 1999 to discuss the deletion the condition to build a "connector road" from Maliu
Ridge to the Akoni Pule Highway. I am writing this letter because I cannot attend the
meeting. I am in support of the developer's proposal to delete Condition "G" of
Ordinance NO. 85-48.
1. I do not want to see my rural neighborhood become a thoroughfaze. Many of our
residents have children who play and ride bikes. Many of us walk our dogs, ride
horses, or jog along the roadsides. I am concerned that people using our streets as
a shortcut will not be as cazeful as my neighbors.
2. The proposed "connector road" goes through private lands that are used for cattle
grazing. Can the public be trusted to open and close gates? What if the cattle get
onto the road? Who will be responsible?
3. I have read the traffic study and agree that the "connector road" is unnecessary. A
development of this size does not warrant a through road.
4. Incase of emergency, there are akeady two alternate ways in and out of Maliu
Ridge.
