Resoluti'on
WHEREASY the major air carriers servicing the islands of Hawaii
in close cooperation with the Hawaii Visitors Bureau are cooperative
and instrumental in the collection of visitor reaction data; and
WHEREAS , the Hawaii Visitors Bureau., in receipt of this data
has been able to compile, quantify and compare visitor reactions
providing a channel for feedback; and
WHEREAS ., the Hawaii County Department of Research & Development
has also conducted samplings at our airports collecting data on
reactions of the Big Island and has provided a similar channel for
visitor feedback; and
WHEREASY these surveys deal with tourism, an important and
integral part of the economy of the island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS , a dissatisfier common to both surveys is the inade-
quacy of our beaches on the island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS , there is a lack of adequate beach sites for our local
recreational needs®
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that in recognition of a need to improve our public park
shoreline., requests guidance and assistance of the U.S . Army Corps
of Engineers to implement a technical study and planning on
shoreline beach parks on the island of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution to
the District Engineer, U,S . Army Corps of Engineerst Fort 8hafter,
Honolulu. Hawaii.
