WHEREAS, as a result of space satellite technology, it is
possible for the people of Hawaii to receive, view and enjoy special
mainland television broadcasts either on a satellite live or on a
tape delay basis along with the normal programming of our major
network affiliated television stations; and
WHEREAS , the benefits afforded to our people as a consequence
of our exposure to the various programs of satellite delivery is
untold; and
WHEREAS ! Comtec Cable Television proposes the establishment of
a satellite earth station which will be capable of receiving television
programs from the continental United States providing additional
coverage to its Big Island franchise; and
WHEREAS , Comtec Cable Television has offered to share this
facility on a nonprofit basis with other cable television firms
servicing the island of Hawaii in an effort to assure islandwide
availability; and
WHEREAS , Comtec Cable Television has applied to the Federal
Communications Commission for authority to build a satellite station
in Hilo as a positive expression of their continuing commitment to
the people of Hawaii ; and
WHEREAS ., there appears to be a sufficiently broad enough band-
width in the frequency spectrum to permit joint use by the proposed
earth station and future requirements of telephone communications

NOW! THEREFORE, BE' IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it takes this means to express
support of Comtec Cable
Television ' s application to the Federal Communications Commission for
authority to build a satellite station in Hilo as a worthy and
beneficial endeavor which will accrue to the people of this county,
BE -IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be
and is hereby authorized and directed to transmit copies of this
resolution to the Secretary of the Federal Communications Commission,
Washington, D, C. 1 International and Satellite Branch, Common Carrier
Bureau and to Mr. John -Cunningham," Manager, Comtec Cable Television.
