Resolution
WHEREAS, there has been increased emphasis in aquaculture
development within the State of Hawaii as evidenced by recent
ventures into catfish farming and prawns; and
WHEREAS, there has been considerable interest in the cultiva-
tion of eels and brine shrimp; and
WHEREAS, it has been projected by Senate President John Ushijima
that aquaculture will be a prioritized issue during the 1978
Legislative Session; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii also views aqua-
culture as a means of stimulating its economy,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that with the concurrence of the Mayor of the County of
Hawaii it respectfully requests the Department of Research and
Development to submit a report to the Council as to aquaculture
developments for the County of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Research and
Development be requested to submit said report within two months
of the passage of this resolution.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a copy of
this resolution to Mayor Herbert Matayoshi, County of Hawaii, for
final disposition.
