County of Hawaii--State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development is charged
with the function of collecting and developing data necessary for
managerial and legislative decision-making, and program and policy-
making; and
WHEREAS, there is a mutual concern for economic stimulation
and development among Administrators and Legislators of State and
County governments and members of the public sector; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii is cognizant of
the future potential of geothermal energy and manganese nodule
mining in our economy; and
WHEREAS, as the Council of the County of Hawaii deliberates
on important issues relating to the economy of the County, it is
imperative that the Department of Research and Development apprise
the Legislative branch of the status of economic development
programs,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that with the concurrence of the Mayor of the County of
Hawaii it respectfully requests the Department of Research and
Development to submit a report advising this Council as to (1) their
recommended approaches to immediate economic development for the
County of Hawaii, and (2) the status of existing economic development
projects.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution
to Mayor Herbert Matayoshi and to Mr. Clarence Garcia, Director
of Research and Development, County of Hawaii.
