WHEREAS, Mr. Zone Crisostomo Legaspi , a well known radio
personality passed away on January 14 , 1978 ; and
INHEREAS , in Mr. Legaspi' s 77 years , his accomplishments and
contributions to the Big Island and moreso the Filipino community
were noteworthy considering his humble beginnings ; and
WhLRLAS, since his arrival from the Philippines in 1927 , he
voluntarily served his community in various capacities such as
teacher, counsellor for acceptance as a naturalized U. S. citizen ,
court interpretor, musician, and was one of the founders of the
Sig Island Filipino Community Association; and
WHEREAS , Mr. Legaspi's business career began as laborer, then
progressed to salesman, publisher and editor of the first Filipino
language paper in the County of Hawaii called the 'Bannawag" , and
finally was highlighted with over thirty years as the news director
and technician announcer of the Mabuhay Filipino Program; and
WHEREAS , this last endeavor fulfilled and provided opportu-
nities for him to express his love of music and his desire to
comrunicate with the Filipino community for the purpose of keeping
them informed, proud and cognizant of their Filipino heritage , and
more importantly to assist them to make meaningful contributions
to their community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it posthumously recognizes Zoilo Crisostomo Legaspi
for the worthy and exemplary legacy he leaves behind him.
BF IT FURTHER RESOLVED that true copies of this resolution
along with the Council ' s condolences be transmitted to his five
sons , Norman, Jerirniah, and Felix Estabilio and Rudolph and
Zoilo T. Legaspi; and to his daughter Mrs. Jacob (Joy) Lee.
